This fly was named after the original pattern, the tarpon toad , tarpon in malay is called "Bulan".The direct translation is "moon" . That's how this fly is called the MOON TOAD which in malay sounds a bit weird . It is a mixture of sculpin and tarpon toad . I use it primarily for tarpon hence the Tarponator.
Materials
Hook
Rabbit Zonker
Silly Legs
Palmer Chenille
Bead Chain
Deer Hair
Dress the hook with thread up to the hook bend .
Tie on some silly legs
Tie on a zonker strip
Wrap the extra zonker strip around the hook .
Tie on some palmer chenille and wrap around the hook . Tie on a bead chain as well .
Take a bunch of deer hair and tie it on . Be sure to make two light wraps and then one tight wrap to assure the deer hair will cover around the hook not just on one side .
After you're done wasting your deer hair , trim it as you would a sculpin or mudler minnow . The deer hair is intended to help with the bobbing for air effect which drives the tarpon crazy .
Trim it to your own desire . For me I will make sure it looks like a sculpin or mouse . hehe
There you have it . The MOON-TOAD . Happy Tying .
